about this project

24 Pages is a student-run magazine produced through Canyon Creative. The third issue centered on typography with a twist of 3D and features spreads based on written pieces submitted by GCU students. Each designer was assigned a piece to interpret visually and develop them i

nto a final layout.

I designed a spread for “How to Rekindle the Flame” by Rylee Jones, an inspirational piece about overcoming creative burnout and rediscovering motivation. When I was designing the spread, I wanted to capture the battle between burnout and rekindling your flame. Burnout can leave someone with the chaos of worry and anxiety. It is not delicate or pretty, it is rough and sharp. Rekindling your flame, or finding your spark, can ease the anxiety and be more calming. This contrast helped communicate the emotional journey between struggle and inspiration, reinforcing the message of the writing.

To extend the magazine’s 3D concept beyond the printed spreads, Canyon Creative wanted to hand out custom 3D glasses as a promotional piece. In designing the glasses, I created a collage using visual elements from each spread, allowing the design to reflect and represent every featured writing piece. This approach helped visually connect all of the content while reinforcing a cohesive and engaging experience for the audience.
